Mezes Galore

When I got to a restaurant, I generally don’t order an appetizer, so I can save room for dessert. (Yes, I am still a believer of the statement “There is always room for dessert.”) However, practically every time I go to a Turkish or Greek restaurant, I order mezes (which are equivalent to appetizers). I don’t know why but these appetizers are my favorite part of the meal.

I particularly love hummus, baba ganoush, spanakopita, and cacik (yogurt with cucumbers). Beyoglu is one of my all-time favorite restaurants in NYC. They serve Turkish food and some of the best mezes I have ever eaten. Their bread is exceptional and served warm. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the food from Beyoglu, but it is very likely that I will go back there in a couple of weeks, so I will post one. Make sure if you go to Beyoglu to make a reservation beforehand because it is likely you will have to wait a long time to get a table otherwise.
